Wow Tristen, i think you did a great job on the comparisons. i totally agree with the fact that Beatrice is torn between the aptitude test and which faction to pick. She has no idea what to think about the results of her aptitude test results and is torn between choosing the faction she wants to be in or choosing the one for her family. Beatrice struggled with the fact that her family was depending on her to choose Abnegation, and the fact that she wanted to be part of Dauntless. I also think she was nervous because she was torn between decisions. I also agreed that she felt like she abandoned her parents by choosing Dauntless, and i love the comparison you made with her and her brother and the quote you used. it really shows how she justified her decision in picking Dauntless by the fact that her brother chose Erudite. Beatrice always thought her brother was the model child because he looked like he fit perfectly into Abnegation, and she felt like she didn't fit. When he didn't pick Abnegation even thought she thought he fit it perfectly, she realized that there was no way she could be expected to pick it because he fit it better then her, and he chose another faction. Good job. I completely agree with the statement that Beatrice creates a reputation for herself by jumping first. Throughout the book, she is referred to by others as the "first jumper" and labeled as that. Because she chose to take the leap first, she shows character traits consistent with Dauntless. No fear. Her jumping first ties into a plot in a way. Good point. i totally agree with what you are saying. Nice post.
Mouth- Beatrice says that she isn't nervous for her aptitude test, but she is really torn between decision. "And tomorrow, the choosing ceremony; I will choose to stay with my family, or abandon them" (pg.3)
Heart- Beatrice feels as if she abandoned her parents in abnegation when she chose dauntless, but she also wants to explore the freedom and daring life of the dauntless. "I look at caleb, who now stands behind the erudite. He staresback at me and nodes a little. If caleb wasn't fit for abnegation, how can I be?" (pg.47) Hands- Beatrice creates a reputation for herself when she is the first to complete the first dauntless challenges, to jump off a hundred storie building into the unknown. "A stiff, the first to jump? unheard of" (pg.60) " she left them for a reason" (pg.60) HEAD - Beatrice thinks that her father is ashamed of her for her decision to go to dauntless, but is also confused at why her mother looks pleased.
"My fathers eyes burn into mine with a look of accusation" (pg 48) "I think he's found a way to set me on fire, to punish me for what I've done" (pg 48) "Beside him, my mother is smiling" (pg 49) EYES - Beatrice notices that her mother isn't strict about the faction rules and sees the things that her mother does as a little Strange and abnormal. "Her eyes catch mine in the mirror. It is too late to look away, but instead of scolding me, she smiles at our reflection" (pg 2) "Why doesn't she reprimand me for staring at myself?"( pg 2) EARS - Beatrice hears people telling her that being divergent is dangerous and she shouldn't tell people or allow them to find out what she is. "Beatrice, she says, 'under no circumstances should you share that information with anyone else, this is very important" (pg 22) "I mean you should never share it with anyone no matter what happens. Divergence is extremely dangerous, you understand?" (pg 23) |
